2014 Session Begins

Legislators will get a look at the state’s current financial picture and a forecast for the next fiscal year when the State Finance Director gives pre-session briefings on Monday.  General Fund hearings will follow when lawmakers get presentations from the two biggest agencies in the General Fund budget: Medicaid and Corrections.  The troubled General Fund continues to face a deficit for the 2015 fiscal year and some agencies will likely face cuts in the budget which begins on Oct. 1st.  Budget hearings will continue on Tuesday morning with education leaders making their financial presentations.

Legislative leaders are expected to hold a number of three-day work weeks instead of the usual two meeting days and could wrap up the session in early April.
