Compensation to National Board Certified Teachers
The House Education Ways and Means Committee unanimously passed a bill on Feb. 15th reaffirming the Legislature’s commitment to helping educators excel in their profession. The $2.31 million Supplemental Appropriations Bill from the Education Trust Fund will provide the full $5,000 salary supplement for teachers who completed the process to become national board certified.
State revenue shortages in recent years have caused the supplement for national board certified teachers to be less than the full amount. On a local level, the legislative delegation plans to pass a bill requiring that in any year the state fails to fully compensate teachers the difference would be made up from TVA-in-lieu-of-tax money that is distributed to the school systems in Marshall County.
